Tailored Services for Educators

We work with everyone who supports children and their development, from pre-school/ early years practitioners to primary and secondary school settings.

We can attend your setting to provide assessments, therapy or training. Several of our therapists are also qualified teachers and understand the pressures of working in education. Whether you need regular SLT support, a short-term strategy, or an intervention boost, we’ll build a package around your setting’s needs.

Working closely with SENDCOs, class teachers, support staff, and early years practitioners, we help children believe in themselves, grow, and achieve.

Why choose Sunny SLT?

We support children aged 2-16 who are experiencing any form of speech, language or communication difficulties, working with families at home or in educational settings such as nurseries, childminders and schools.

  • Our therapy sessions are based on the most recent and effective intervention strategies. They are delivered through fun and engaging activities, utilising knowledge and skills to maximise the progress your child will make.

  • We know that children learn best when their targets are meaningful to them and carefully monitored. We ensure that each child has an individualised therapy plan, which is regularly reviewed to assess progress and meet their specific needs and goals.

  • Speech and language skills underpin literacy development and comprehension. That’s why we create communication goals with education skills in mind. We also value collaborating with educators to discuss and embed strategies into classroom activities. We know that this holistic approach supports children’s communication in their daily school lives.

 Services for Educators

  • A combination of standardised formal and informal assessments will be used, alongside case history and views from parents and educators, to help build a detailed understanding of a child’s needs and strengths.

  • Sessions can be used to target specific goals, which could be based on:

    • The development of speech sounds

    • Comprehension skills

    • Expressive language (using language to express ideas)

    • Social communication

    • Attention and listening skills

    • Developing phonological awareness skills

  • Detailed reports that document assessment findings, targets and recommendations which can be used to support onward referrals.

  • Effective and engaging strategies that support communication throughout the school day. This also includes strategies to use assistive technology (Clicker, Tobii Dyanvox, Nearpod etc) to engage pupils and monitor achievement of communication goals.

We understand that good oral language and communication underpin literacy skills, but we also know that some children struggle with Synthetic Phonics. We offer Phonological Awareness Training, an evidence-based syllable awareness strategy that can help children with working memory/executive functioning difficulties develop literacy skills.

  • We provide professional advice and recommendations about a child’s communication needs and strengths, which support EHCP applications and annual reviews.

  • We provide training sessions tailored to a setting’s needs for teaching and support staff. Sessions can be delivered as twilight sessions or on INSET days, they can be part of a package or one-off.

  • Building relationships is key to us working well together, which is why you will have a dedicated therapist throughout the year to ensure continuity of care.

  • As part of our session planning activities, we track each child’s progress using meaningful and measurable targets, allowing us to see the difference that our support is making. At the end of each academic term, we provide a detailed impact report to highlight the progress made and the outcomes achieved.

  • Friendly and informative sessions can be arranged to help parents support communication skills at home using easy-to-apply and practical strategies.

  • We are dedicated to supporting the communication of children in our care. We believe that collaborating with NHS therapists and medical practitioners helps ensure that our children receive a holistic approach to support their communication and overall well-being.
